After 4 years from his first record
as leader 'I wouldn't be sure', Manolo Cabras brings out his new work
under his name,'Melys in Diotta'. During his carrier as a side man,
Cabras appears at the sides of artists like Enrico Rava,Toots Thielmans,
Paolo Fresu, Roswell Rud, Charles Gale, Marshal Allen, Maria Pia De
Vito, Marc Murphy, Eric Vloeimans, Jasper Blom, Jesse van Ruller,
Benjamin Herman, Eric Inneke, Wolfert Brederode, etc...
In 2003 Manolo Cabras gets involved in the Belgian jazz-scene. He plays
and/or records with the Ben Sluijs Quartet, Toots Thielemans Quartet,
Manuel Hermia Trio, Chris Joris Quartet, Frederik Desmyter Quartet (ft.
John Ruocco), Pierre Vaiana Quartet, Eve Bouvens Heptatomic and Erik
Vermeulen Trio.
For this project, the Manolo Cabras Quartet exists of 4 unique musicians
that share their roots in the traditional jazz. Jean-Paul Estiévenart,
Nicola Andrioli and Marek Patrman belong definitely to the finest of the
Belgian actual jazz scene.
In Cabras' compositions his band is invited to a continuous research
within the structure, a daring game where tradition is never far away
but yet challenged and joyfully explored. This band resonates jazz
strongly while remaining surprisingly fresh. Reminiscing Miles, Coltrane
or Ornette in its concept of swing while revealing a large spectrum of
colours with the expressive melodies of Manolo Cabras.
'Melys in
Diotta' was released on September the 1st 2016, at the 'Jazz in Park'
festival in Ghent

Vijftien jaar lang creëert Moker
avontuurlijke jazz en impro en staat de 'hamer' symbool voor de
creatieve kracht van deze vijf muzikale hoefsmeden. Met Gent als
uitvalsbasis is het na vier cd producties tijd voor een vijfde creatie:
Ladder !! Ladder heeft het volledige spectrum aan muzikale bagage in
zich welke deze band op z'n parcours wist te verzamelen en is tevens het
resultaat van een werkproces waarbij Moker de reeds begane paden bewust
heeft getracht te mijden. De manier waarop de muziek tot stand kwam, het
opnameproces alsook het gebruikte instrumentarium resulteren in een
kaleidoscopisch doch geheel eigen en karakteristiek geluid dat vol zit
met referenties naar tijdloze en inspirerende muzikale helden.
Esthetisch gaat de reis langs allerlei hoeken en kanten: van 70's
psychedelica, Jazz, Krautrock en Afro tot akoestische songs, minimal
music, fanfaresk en electro. 15 jaar Moker, 15 tracks die een exotisch
klankavontuur vormen vol fantasie, zonder restricties of taboes en met
een krachtige, positieve en constructieve muzikale visie.
